M1 Jukebox, Singapore’s first mobile-based music-subscription service, is off to a flying start, according to Soundbuzz CEO Sudhanshu Sarronwala.
He says the service has signed up more than 8,000 subscribers since its March 19 launch by leading mobile carrier M1 and digital music digital music services provider Soundbuzz, both based in Singapore.
“The response to date has been very encouraging, and we expect a 30% growth rate month-on-month for the first six month,” Sarronwala says.
M1 Jukebox offers users unlimited streams from more than 10,000 tracks covering a wide variety of musical genres licensed from all the international majors as well as local, Indian and Southeast Asian independent labels. Users pay a monthly $3.40 subscription fee.
“It is critical to develop innovative packages to encourage customers to access a greater variety of services via their handsets,” says Soundbuzz Southeast Asia GM Yen Ong. “The Jukebox service enables subscribers to purchase and download music in any format they choose – full songs, truetones, polyphonic ringtones, and wallpapers.”
“Music-related content is one of our most popular mobile services,” says M1 chief marketing officer P. Subramanian. “M1 Jukebox’s affordability will definitely make this service music to the ears of our youth segment.”
The service is expected to roll out to other mature 3G and 3.5 countries in the Asia-Pacific region within the next six months.
