Just in time for Inauguration Day, a corrido has come out that’s fit for a
president. Independent singer-songwriter Juan Carlos Sanchez (stage name Sinaloa 21) has released “El Corrido de Barack Obama,” a brass-heavy narrative song dedicated to President Barack Obama.
Ivan Castro, formerly manager of creative services at Univision Music
Publishing, is the song’s producer and publisher via his Los Angeles-based
company Ecuasound.
After a shout-out to minorities and whites joining to elect a President of
color, the song continues, “I hope he won’t forget/when he’s already in
power/All the poor people and my people without papers/and all the promises he made to those people.”
Castro says the song was just finished last night and sent to radio
stations, including the nationally-broadcast Univision Radio program “Piolín de la Mañana.” There are plans to record an English version too, says Castro.
