Last week, fans of HBO’s Silicon Valley were treated to a special K-pop-styled trailer for the upcoming fifth season of the show featuring BTS’ “Mic Drop (Remix).”
The long lead tease video was released on Jan. 10, featuring BTS’ song with Steve Aoki and Desiigner as the backing track. Other elements of the video were also stylized to emulate the official music video of the Korean septet’s song, recreating its black-and-red block lettering.
The fifth season of Silicon Valley begins airing on HBO on March 25, and the trailer revealed the show’s characters moving forward with their company Pied Piper after the events of the previous season. The new season will be the first without co-star T.J. Miller, who left the show in June; he was accused of sexual assault in December.
Upon Billboard reaching out, HBO had no comment regarding Silicon Valley’s usage of “Mic Drop.” However, BTS’ fans were quick to point out that the show’s tech startup, called Pied Piper, by chance shares the name of a track on BTS’ chart-topping Love Yourself: Her EP.
It’s hardly the first time BTS has appeared in American media over the past few months: the group’s stateside ascent has been marked by appearances at the BBMAs, AMAs, and Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve With Ryan Seacrest.
