Icelandic rock act Sigur Ros has set a Sept. 12 internationally release for its new EMI album, “Takk,” which is Icelandic for “Thanks.” The 11-cut release will be issued the following day by Geffen in North America. The album is sung mostly in Sigur Ros’ native tongue; frontman Jonsi Thor Birgisson has previously sung in his own language, “Hopelandish.”
Several of the new tracks have already been performed live on a just-underway international tour, which arrives tomorrow (July 12) in Paris. A North American outing kicks off Sept. 6 in Atlanta, with one-off shows scheduled for Aug. 9 in Honolulu and Aug. 11 in Los Angeles and .
“Takk” is the follow-up to 2002’s “( ),” which debuted at No. 51 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 227,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
