While the last month has brought a lot of new Sia music, including “Alive” and “Bird Set Free” from her upcoming 2016 album This Is Acting, new music from the camera-shy singer/songwriter also arrived over the summer, in a sense.
In August, Sia and composer J. Ralph soundtracked an event to raise awareness of the global issue of mass extinction and endangered species by projecting images of endangered animals onto the sides of New York buildings. The two produced the song “One Candle” as part of the event, and the song soundtracks its complementary documentary, Racing Extinction, which also features a song from Antony of Antony and the Johnsons.
And now, you can hear the Sia song for yourself in a Racing Extinction trailer:
J. Ralph talked about the project to Rolling Stone, which premiered the video. “Both songs are essential to the film’s narrative and integral to the awareness campaign worldwide,” Ralph said. “Our hope was that we could inspire people with the understanding that every individual has the power to create global change from even one small idea.”
Sia also told RS: “As an animal advocate, how could I pass up on an opportunity to turn the volume up on this issue? I am proud to lend my voice to this important film.”
