ShowClix Ticketing, a Pittsburgh-based live events firm, added a new mobile delivery option to its online ticketing service.
The company delivers tickets to fans’ mobile phone screens in the form of a text message, not a mobile barcode. Technology partner is bCODE. Once the ticket is purchased, buyers receive a message saying the ticket will be delivered to their phone the day before the event.
The mobile “ticket” is a series of encrypted letters, numbers, and characters that can be scanned at the venue by a special bCODE scanner.
Delivering barcode mobile tickets only works with phones capable of displaying multimedia messages.
The first act taking advantage of the new feature is indie outfit Tokyo Police Club, playing at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Pittsburgh on April 10.
