Choi Minho of K-pop group SHINee released his first single “I’m Home” this week.
Released on Thursday (March 28), “I’m Home” is both Minho’s first single as well as his farewell track to fans due to his upcoming enlistment in South Korean armed forces to fulfill the country’s draft requirement. He will enlist in the country’s marine corps on April 15.
Though he originally got his start as a rapper in SHINee, Minho has developed as a talented singer over the years and the smooth, whistle-driven alt-R&B ballad features the star both relaying mellow vocals and smooth raps. The lyrics of the song, which addresses the feelings of loneliness of being home alone after the end of a romance, were co-written by the star.
“I’m Home” was shared through SM Entertainment’s digital singles platform SM Station. A music video for the song featured the SHINee member as he lounges around, travels and works, and interacts with a variety of phones and clocks. Throughout, he appears on the verge of exhaustion, but the clip ends with the understanding that all the while he has been contemplating the decision to propose to the person he loves.
Minho is the third member of SHINee to enlist, following Onew and Key, each of whom released albums ahead of their enlistment.
