Shawn Mendes, the 16-year-old Vine star whose first full length album, Handwritten, debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, has signed with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG).
The deal covers Mendes’ entire songwriting catalog — the Island artist wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on his debut — and is an exclusive global publishing agreement.

“I am so impressed with Shawn’s talent as a songwriter, musician and performer,” said Jody Gerson, chairman and CEO of UMPG, in announcing the signing.
Added Mendes: “So excited to be a part of the Universal Music Publishing family! It means so much to have such an amazing and supportive team there who can help me fulfill my vision and who are so enthusiastic about what I do.”
Handwritten was released on April 14 and sold 119,000 units in its opening week, according to Nielsen Music. Mendes is the youngest artist to have a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart in nearly five years.
