This summer saw a sharp turn towards a more mature side to K-pop boy band SF9 with the release of their album Sensuous at the end of July. The album, fronted by the single “Now or Never,” went on to peak at No. 10 on the World Albums chart.
Members of the group recently sat down to chat with Billboard about their latest music and their upcoming tour in Latin America. The shift towards a dark, electro house-inspired sound on “Now or Never” came after the group’s previous foray into Latin pop and showtune-style pop, and SF9 admits to being concerned about the switch.
“We’re trying a new concept this time so we were kind of worried and nervous but after our new title came out I think pretty much people are liking it more than we thought,” says Inseong. The single went on to peak at No. 14 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, their second-highest ranked song ever.
Several members played a role in writing the songs on Sensuous, their fifth EP, but say it was overall a joint effort. “We have shared our idea on directions that we have to go, choreographs, and performances when we’re working on our songs,” says Zuho. “[The album] was made from all of our ideas gathered together.”
The group also talked about who is the most Sensuous, with Jae Yoon and Hwiyoung being highlighted by other members, and about their dances, songwriting, their upcoming tour and more.
