Three members of the popular Korean boy band Seventeen released a new single this week, marking a new unit within the 13-member boy band.
Already split into three teams — vocal, performance and hip-hop — Seventeen’s DK, Seungkwan and Hoshi debuted the BSS subunit on Wednesday, March 21. Referencing their birth names — Boo Seungkwan, Lee Seokmin and Kwon Soonyoung — the trio, also known as BooSeokSoon, released “Just Do It” as their first single.
A festive head-bobber, the single blends funky instrumentals with a bouncy electropop melody and overloads it with boisterous vocals and playful raps. The song was produced by Seventeen’s Woozi, who has written many of the K-pop group’s songs, while each of the BSS members took part in writing the lyrics of the song.
The new unit is the first official team to promote outside of Seventeen’s typical makeup, which splits the 13 members into three groups each with a leader; each group, plus a leader team, have released music videos in the past. BSS’ leader DK and Seungkwan are part of Seventeen’s vocal team, while Hoshi is part of the performance, or dance, unit.
One of the largest Korean boy bands active in 2018, Seventeen rose to prominence through a variety of sleekly produced funkpop and evocative EDM singles. They’ve seen two albums hit No. 1 on the World Albums chart, including November’s Teen, Age, the act’s second LP.
The music video for “Just Do It” shows a concert performance by the three members with a studio recording of the song replacing the live original audio. Watch it here:
