Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden announced Sen. Kamala Harris as his VP pick Tuesday (Aug. 11), so Billboard is revisiting and rewinding through her mood playlist.
Last year during a segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Harris sat down and ran through her favorite tracks for any given scenario, from what to play at the cookout (Beyoncé‘s Lemonade) to what reminds her of her college days at Howard University (Salt-N-Pepa‘s “Push It”) to what she loved as a child (Aretha Franklin‘s “Young, Gifted and Black”). But most importantly and timely, her presidential song pick is “One Nation Under a Groove” by Funkadelic.
Artists including John Legend, Cher, Justin Timberlake, Hayley Kiyoko and more cheered her on social media when Biden followed through with his vow to pick a female running mate. Harris is now the first Black woman to run on a major political party’s presidential ticket.
