Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard’s weekly series that showcases artists’ very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. The curated set features the artists’ favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week’s spin comes from Sebastian Yatra. The 23-year-old Colombian sensation became a household name back in 2016 following the release of his crossover hit “Traicionera.” After earning nominations for Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Pop Album at last year’s Latin Grammy Awards, the pop upstart — who hails from Medellin, Colombia — is now eyeing a nod for New Artist of the Year at the 2018 Latin American Music Awards, held Oct. 25 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
The Latin newcomer is also gearing up for his first ever U.S. tour, kicking off off next week at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Fl. (Oct. 4), with stops at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles (Oct. 21), New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, NJ (Nov. 2), and United Palace Theatre in New York City (Nov. 4).
To fete the upcoming milestone as well as Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), Yatra is looking back, with this week’s #TBT Mixtape, featuring songs from Simple Plan, Ed Sheeran, Juanes, Carlos Vives, Alejandro Fernandez and more.
“These songs and artists have inspired me to write about love in all its shapes and forms,” he tells Billboard. “They are filled with honest lyrics and honest melodies. Music can last forever. I know these songs will, at least for me”
