Australian independent music company Shock is reshuffling the deck with the promotion of Marcus Seal to a group-wide leadership role.
Seal, until now CEO of the Melbourne-based company’s records division Shock Records, assumes the new role as managing director of Shock Group Holdings.
Speaking to Billboard.biz from the MIDEM trade fair in Cannes, Seal says one of his goals is to explore and tap the synergies within the group, and hinted that areas such as merchandising and management might get a closer look in future.
“I’ll just try to take my own experiences and apply them to Shock,” he adds. “Shock is a unique beast. There’s nothing else like it in the world. It’s a particular, unique model we’ve built, and it will continue to be that way.”
Seal joined Shock in the first quarter of 2006 from Sony BMG Music Entertainment Australia, where he had served as co-director of marketing for the past seven years.
He replaced Charles Caldas, who had resigned from the company citing
the need for a change in lifestyle. Caldas is now CEO of Merlin, the
global independent music community’s digital rights agency.
Seal takes a seat on the Shock Group Holdings Board alongside Shock Entertainment Board of Management chairman/CEO David Williams, CFO Andrew Gerardi and vice chairman Frank Falvo.
The Shock Group Of Companies encompasses Shock Entertainment, One Stop Entertainment, Shock Music Publishing, Fulfillment Australia, Shock New Zealand, Ragged Company and Shock Exports.com.
