Scouting For Girls retained the No. 1 spot on the new U.K. album chart with their self-titled Epic debut, while “Now You’re Gone” (Hard2Beat) by Basshunter featuring DJ Mental Theos did the same on the singles survey, which welcomed a new top 10 hit for Kelly Rowland.
The “Scouting For Girls” album started a second week on top, outpacing the surging Robert Plant and Alison Krauss album “Raising Sand” (Decca/Rounder), which rose from No. 5 to a new peak of No. 2 in its 13th chart week. There was a No. 7 debut for Lupe Fiasco’s “The Cool” (Atlantic), following his top 10 single featuring Matthew Santos, “Superstar,” which yesterday dipped 4-5.
Nickelback had a strong week on both charts, leaping 41-10 with the 2005 album “All The Right Reasons” (Roadrunner) as the long-running single from it, “Rockstar,” climbed again 6-3 in its 15th week. The album is now at a new chart peak, having only reached No. 13 in the U.K. on first release.
Garth Brooks, whose patchy U.K. sales career includes one top 10 album with “In Pieces,” a No. 2 in 1994, re-entered at No. 11 with “The Ultimate Hits” (Sony BMG). The compilation had reached No. 54 in November. There were also top 40 debuts for Eels’ “Meet The Eels” retrospective (Geffen) at No. 26 and Cat Power’s “Jukebox” (Matador) at No. 32.
The Basshunter single snagged a third week at No. 1 as Adele’s “Chasing Pavements” (XL Recordings) held at No. 2 and, as mentioned, Nickelback rose to No. 3. Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music” (Def Jam) continues to sell strongly on download sales alone, climbing 5-4. Physical release of the track is not until next Monday (Feb. 4).
Rowland’s “Work” (RCA) climbed 31-7 on the new singles survey on download sales (physical release is today) and British Asian R&B singer Jay Sean’s “Ride It” debuted at No. 11. The former Virgin artist now records for the independent 2Point9 label, with an album titled “My Own Way” imminent.
Amy Winehouse continues to top Billboard’s European Top 100 Albums survey, as “Back to Black” (Universal Island) holds at No. 1 for a fifth week ahead of Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” (XL Recordings). “Apologize” (Mosley/ Blackground/ Interscope) by Timbaland presents OneRepublic leads Eurochart Hot 100 Singles for a tenth week.
