One month after the death of the Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchinson, the singer’s brother and bandmate Grant has opened up about mental health and depression in his first interview since the tragedy.
Hutchinson spoke out regarding his brother’s suicide following a long battle with depression, in the hopes of raising awareness for for depression and mental health in today’s society.
“One of the main things about this is to realize and understand that this is not just Scott. Anyone can go through things like this. Yes, there are certain triggers and certain people who may be more susceptible to it but there are no rules. Mental illness isn’t something that anyone’s immune to,” Hutchinson said in a June 26 interview with Planet Radio.
Hutchinson’s younger brother has taken this tragedy as wake-up call to become more educated on mental health, expressing, “I guess the main thing I’m taking from that is that maybe at the time I wasn’t educated enough — I’m still not. I’m not saying that in the past month I’ve learned everything that there is to learn; that’s impossible. Not knowing enough is probably my biggest regret.”
