In 2011, Pentatonix members Scott Hoying, Kevin Olusola, Mitch Grassi, Kristin Maldonado and Avi Kaplan auditioned for the a capella singing competition The Sing-Off and went on to win season three of the show and skyrocket their music careers as a group.
Seven years to the day (June 4), Hoying took to Twitter to reflect on his journey with the group. “I always get a little emotional on June 4th because it’s the day @ptxofficial met and decided to start our journey together,” he wrote. “We went from all sharing 1 room on air mattresses the night before our audition, to selling 10 million albums, winning 3 grammys, selling out arenas, amassing 15 million subscribers, and landing 2 #1 albums on the Billboard 200.”
He accompanied the post with side-by-side photos of the group on their audition and a recent Times Square billboard advertising the group’s most recent album PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. 1.
