The first album from English dance duo Disclosure, Settle, came out over a year ago, but it’s a testament to the album’s vitality that it’s still producing interesting remixes more than a year later. The latest involves West Coast rapper Schoolboy Q taking on “Latch,” which has been on the charts for 27 weeks and helped introduce UK soul singer Sam Smith to America. Check out the new version below.
Q raps in a low growl here and fills his lines with enthusiastic come-ons: “Take you to heaven, pit stop at the moon / Stunt in July til the month after June / Hang on my arm while we freeze up the room.”
Disclosure has made a point of working with a variety of rappers and R&B singers. The 37 track(!!) special edition of Settle also included a remix of “Latch” by the legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premier.
Their remix of “F For U” with Mary J. Blige led to an extended collaboration — Disclosure signed on to help produce a whole new album from Blige, due out this fall. Hear the first track from that collaboration, “Right Now,” below.
Earlier this year, ScHoolboy Q released the album Oxymoron, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. His single “Studio,” featuring a smooth, sensual chorus from BJ The Chicago Kid, is currently at No. 13 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
