Nothing beats a good spook on All Hallow’s Eve, but you have a short attention span. You need a scare that comes bite-size, and you want it to have a killer beat.
Don’t fret, freaks. The dance music world offers plenty of music videos full of crawling creepies and supernatural scares.
These videos are sure to give you nightmares until November. Some of them are quite NSFW. Watch at your own risk.
13. Knife Party – “Internet Friends”
This one is funnier than it is scary, really, but there is a lot of blood. So. Much. Blood. This song is scary, of course. We should probably all be a little more fearful of what we share online. There’s probably a few basement dwellers that wish a few models would stalk them though.
12. Tommy Trash & TAISUN – “IOUE”
It’s scary how close to home this freak-fest truly hits. We are all slaves to our phone. This is what happens when demons hack your mobile device. This is also how it feels when you finally get those data charges.
11. Rezz – “Paranoid”
Dude thinks he’s going to a fun house party, but things couldn’t be further from the truth. Or, actually, the house party probably is fun. He just happens to be hallucinating a lot. Why did he even leave the house in the first place? Here’s to knowing when you’re better off staying home.
10. Skrillex – “First of the Year (Equinox)”
Creepers always get what’s coming to them in the end — or at least, we truly hope so. This pedophiliac monster certainly doesn’t get away with his dangerous deeds. That skeezeball never saw this coming.
9. Lorn – “Acid Rain”
This chilled-out creeper won a UK Music Video Award for best dance video when it came out in 2015. It’s a cool video featuring some really dope dance moves, but it also tells a harrowing tale. Beautiful and sad, perfect for Halloween.
8. Amtrac – “I’m All Yours”
This track got a creeped-out edit for this totally spooky music video. Nothing like waking up tied to a chair surrounded by people in black robes and white masks to give your morning that get-up-and-go.
7. Gesaffelstein – “Hate or Glory”
It’s a modern, urban take on the old tale of King Midas. One gangster loves gold a little too much, and his greed gets the best of him — not before he has a good time, of course. Almost even more than the visuals, though, Gesaffelstein’s demonic soundtrack strikes horror into the pit of our very existence.
6. Justice – “Stress”
This song off Justice’s debut album is all about heightened senses and fight or flight, but mostly the latter. Romain Gavras did an incredible job translating the sound of these worried synths into stunningly violent visuals. If you still need a costume, we recommend six of your friends embroider some jackets, stat.
5. Nine Inch Nails – “Closer”
Easily one of the gothest music videos ever recorded, “Closer” was originally deemed too intense for television. The director was forced to replace certain bits with stylized censors. This is the director’s cut though, and as a general heads-up, this song itself is very NSFW. The F-word is all up in this mother, so partake accordingly.
4. Fever Ray – “If I Had a Heart”
Fever Ray is the solo side project of The Knife vocalist Karin Dreijer. Everything she touches is kind of eerie already. This video is not full of pop-up ghouls and bloody sprays. This is a slow-creep, get-under-the-skin kind of fear. You’ll wanna lift your feet up into your chair as the camera pans over the ornate furniture and lifeless bodies, and the song is equally unnerving.
3. Kill the Noise – “BLVCK MVGIC”
Thank goodness this is all claymation. Gore, guts and good old witch burning, that’s what Kill the Noise brings to this gnarly dubstep tune. Oh, and werewolves. There’s a lot of nastiness going on. This doesn’t end well for anybody.
2. Aphex Twin – “Come to Daddy”
This is the ultimate classic spooky music video. We’ve all been haunted by those fiendish faces and that possessed TV. We’ve all yelled at that little old lady like “GET OUT OF THERE, LADY! SAVE YOURSELF!” If you don’t watch this every year at Halloween, what are you doing with your life?
1. Corporate Occult – “Huorotron”
SUPER NSFW ALERT. There is a lot of nudity and blood in this one. Don’t get mad at me when you puke everywhere and can’t sleep for a week. Still, it’s worth watching, because this just might be the scariest, goriest, freakiest, most intense music video ever. Enjoy.
