Actor Chadwick Boseman wasted no time getting into his Black Panther character T’Challa during his April 7 hosting gig on Saturday Night Live.
Boseman, who played the diplomatic leader of fictional African country Wakanda in the superhero film, paid a visit to SNL‘s game show parody Black Jeopardy! — and he hilariously proved to know very little about culture outside his Wakanda utopia.
“This might be the blackest ‘Black Jeopardy’ yet,” declared the show’s host Darnell Hayes, portrayed by Kenan Thompson.
Competing against the polished T’Challa were rough-around-the-edges characters Shanice (Leslie Jones) and Rashad (Chris Redd).
To kick things off, Hayes and the contestants were quite perplexed by T’Challa’s response to: “This is the reason your cable bill is in your grandmama’s name,” from the “Fid’na” category.
“What is, to honor her as the foundation of the family,” T’Challa answered in a very sincere manner.
After giving a confused look, the host responded, “Hmm… That’s really nice. It’s wrong, but it’s really nice. Anybody else?”
“What is cause, I’m fid’na get a car and I don’t need all that on my credit,” Shanice responded correctly.
