Morgan Wallen may not be taking the stage this weekend as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, so it’s host Bill Burr’s time to shine.
In a new “awkward promo” for the sketch comedy show, a masked Burr and Kenan Thompson jokingly discuss the possibility of taking over a musical guest role. “Hey Kenan, maybe they’ll let me do my music too,” Burr suggests, before Thompson replies, “Yeah, maybe.”
Burr asks the crew behind the camera what they think, and gets rejected but notes that “it’s kind of hard to tell with the mask.”
“I heard a clear ‘no,'” Thompson quipped, and Burr resignedly agreed.
Just days before he was set to appear on SNL, Wallen was pulled from the show on Wednesday (Oct. 7) after videos surfaced of the country star partying, kissing and mingling with fans without wearing a mask or practicing social distancing while attending the University of Alabama football game on Oct. 3.
“I got a call from the show letting me know that I will no longer be able to play and that’s because of COVID protocols, which I understand,” he shared in an emotional Instagram video.
Wallen added that he did not test positive for COVID, “but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted and they have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams.”
