MTV Latin America will tape a new pair of “MTV Unplugged” shows featuring Warner Bros. artists Alejandro Sanz and La Ley, Billboard Bulletin reports. Both will be shot in Miami. Chilean rock group La Ley will tape its show June 28; the Sanz show is scheduled for September.
The tapings will bring the number of “MTV Unplugged” shows featuring Spanish-language acts to 17. The shows will air on MTV Latin America, Brazil, and Spain, as well as MTV-S for the Latin market in the U.S. A deal with Warner Bros. includes the production of an album, video, and DVD from each taping.
Sanz’ latest album, “El Alma Al Aire” (WEA Latina), debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard Latin 50 albums chart last October. La Ley’s “Uno” (WEA Latina), released in February 2000, spawned the single “Aqui,” which peaked at No. 30 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart.
In other news, MTV in the U.S. is providing exposure for sister station MTV2 by airing the new program “MTV2 Presents Videos 2 Watch.” The show will debut tonight (June 5) at 10 p.m. ET/PT with clips by Nikka Costa, St. Lunatics, Sum-41, and Depeche Mode.
