Santana’s third studio album, 1971’s aptly titled “III,” will be reissued Feb. 7 via Columbia/Legacy as an expanded, two-disc set. The Legacy edition tacks on three previously unreleased studio recordings (“Gumbo,” “Folsom Street — One” and “Benbeyoko”) plus the single version of “No One To Depend On.”
A second disc captures a July 4, 1971, show at San Francisco’s Fillmore West, six tracks from which are appearing here for the first time. The performance featured most of “III” as well as a cover of Miles Davis’ “In a Silent Way.”
The original album reached No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has been certified five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 5 million copies. It includes the No. 12 Billboard pop hit “Everybody’s Everything” and “No One To Depend On,” which peaked at No. 36.
Carlos Santana’s latest album, “All That I Am,” debuts this week at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. Although he is not currently on the road, the artist has already lined up a short South American tour for next March and a month-long European outing that begins April 30 in Helsinki.
