If Sam Smith‘s Restart” video is any indication, going on tour with the U.K. soul singer seems like a good time.
The video starts with footage of Smith on a bus with his backup singers, who are all gleefully singing along to Beyonce‘s “Flawless” remix. This opening sets the tone for the rest of the video, which is mainly compiled from road footage: Smith and his musicians dancing, performing, record shopping, drinking beer, and driving to gigs.
Nile Rodgers, who recorded “Together” with Smith and the duo Disclosure, makes an appearance at one point. Watch the video below:
“Restart” is one of the most upbeat and modern sounding songs on Smith’s album, In the Lonely Hour, which mainly gestures towards old soul and gospel. This track has a clean, flat ’80s beat and the sort of soft-funk guitar common in post-disco R&B. The hook evokes The Human League‘s 1986 hit “Human,” which was produced by ’80s pop wizards — and former Prince affiliates — Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

“The truth is I’m better on my own,” sings Smith on “Restart.” But the video, which ends with a big group hug on a beach, argues that the opposite is true.
