Legendary salsa singer Tito Gomez died June 11 of a heart attack in a hospital in Cali, Colombia. He was 59.
Gomez, recorded seven albums under Musical Productions, most recently 2004’s “Comenzando en Cero.” His hits include “Llegaste Tarde,” “Paginas de Amor,” “Dejala I” and “Dejala II” with Tito Rojas.
The Puerto Rican-born Gomez, who collaborated with Ray Barreto and eventually made Colombia his home, had been set to play in Venezuela this Friday alongside Rojas, with whom he frequently recorded.
In a statement released by J&N/Musical Productions, Rojas expressed sorrow at Gomez’ loss “so close to Father’s Day … my condolences to his family. We’ve lost a great singer and friend.”
