America’s Got Talent Season 11 alum Sal Valentinetti is not only an old soul musically, but as a romantic partner he is just an old-fashioned kind of guy, he revealed on Tuesday’s (Jan. 10) episode of NBC’s Kathie Lee and Hoda.
When asked by Hoda Kotb about the Jan. 9 episode of The Bachelor, where contestant Corrine Olympios strategically removed her bikini top in the pool as a ploy to attract Bachelor Nick Viall, Valentinetti cried foul.
“I would have jumped out,” he said. “It’s not about giving yourself up right away. It’s a first date. What kind of message is that sending?”
The 21-year old Long Island native — who also competed on American Idol’s fourteenth season — appeared on the NBC morning show as part of a segment, “Guys Tell All,” alongside comic Chuck Nice, Dr. Larry Burchett, and Idiotest host Ben Gleib answering relationship questions from various women. He added that had good reason to be opposed to that method of getting a man’s attention.
“I got a goddaughter. She’s two-years-old. If she flipped through to channel 7, I would have been a little bit upset about that,” Valentinetti said.
When asked “how do you let a man know that you are very interested in him?” he had this advice: “Don’t take advice from The Bachelor.”
Another girl asked him, “after a year of dating, what would I expect for Valentine’s Day?” to which the big softie had a thoughtful answer.
“After a year, the honeymoon phase has worn off, so do something fun and exciting that reignites the flame,” he said. “In this day and age it all gets very routine. It’s not about the gift, it’s about spontaneity. It’s about keeping the relationship young and fresh.”
Fans planning a Valentine’s Day outing can catch Valentinetti’s upcoming shows, featuring the music of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, with appearances lined up at The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ on Jan. 26 and at the Morgantown Event Center in West Virginia with comedian Mike Marino on Feb. 17.
