Black Sabbath has called off its planned post-Ozzfest tour after Epic Records demanded that Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne instead spend the time finishing his long-festering new solo album. According to a band spokesperson, the as-yet-untitled record is due Oct. 16. Sabbath’s dates on Ozzfest run through Aug. 12 in Holmdel, N.J.; the subsequent tour was set to open just days later with Disturbed supporting.
Osbourne’s forthcoming album is being produced by Tim Palmer (Tears for Fears, the Cure). It will feature guitarist and longtime Osbourne collaborator Zakk Wylde, ex-Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin, and bassist Robert Trujilo of Suicidal Tendencies.
The album is Osbourne’s first solo set since 1995’s “Ozzmosis,” which debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200. In March, Black Sabbath announced plans to record an album of all new material — its first since 1978’s “Never Say Die” — in the fall with producer Rick Rubin.
