Three male members of Polydor-signed pop band S Club 7 cautioned by police for possession of a small amount of cannabis have apologized to fans for being “very stupid.”
In a joint statement, Bradley McIntosh, Jon Lee, and Paul Cattermole said “we know we’ve made a mistake and we’re very sorry,” in response to the incident in London’s Covent Garden on Tuesday. A spokesman says “the band are gutted by this. They rate their fans very highly and they know that they have let a lot of people down. Now they’re learning their lesson the hard way”.
British Telecommunications, one of the group’s corporate sponsors, have vowed to continue its two-year sponsorship deal with the pop act, but warned it was “extremely disappointed” by the incident. Billboard.com understands that another high-level sponsor, Cadburys, will not terminate its contractual agreement with S Club 7.
Meanwhile, the group is set to launch its new single, “Don’t Stop Movin'” in the U.K. on April 23. The release comes ahead of a 17-date tour of the U.K. and Ireland, beginning May 19 at Sheffield Arena. A new BBC TV series on the band will be shot after the tour, and is scheduled for international broadcast this fall.
