The third annual RuPaul’s DragCon sashayed into the sunset on April 30 after a frock-filled weekend, and with a new attendance record under its sequined belt. World of Wonder, which produces the event, reports that more than 40,000 attendees came to DragCon in 2017 — up from 22,000 in 2016.
DragCon was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on April 29 and 30 (along with a VIP preview evening on April 28) and hosted more than 90 drag queens and occupied 210,000 square feet of convention floor space. All three DragCon events have been held at the Convention Center.
At the close of the DragCon on April 30, during RuPaul’s keynote address, the diva announced that DragCon will expand to New York on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 2017. The event will be dubbed: RuPaul’s DragCon NYC. Tickets will go on sale via RuPaulsDragCon.com on May 12.

“We’re excited to bring DragCon to NYC where our queens will prance proudly in the city of Stonewall, under the watchful eye of the fiercest queen of all – Lady Liberty,” World of Wonder co-founder Fenton Bailey said in a statement.
The Los Angeles edition of RuPaul’s DragCon will also return to the city in the spring of 2018 (exact dates to be announced).
DragCon NYC will likely feature much of the same sort of content fans have experienced at the Los Angeles edition of the show: from meet and greets with queens (and celebrities) and live show tapings to dozens of panels and oodles of shopping opportunities with vendors aplenty.
