As the buzz surrounding RÜFÜS DU SOL’s forthcoming Solace album continues to build, the Australian trio returns with their latest single, “Lost in My Mind.”
Premiered today (Sept. 5) on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music Beats 1 show as a World Record, “Lost in My Mind” revisits the deep club music vibe of the previously-released Solace singles via its slow-burning synths, ghostly, tribal-like vocal samples and an otherworldly breakdown. The group wrote the song during a two-day trip to the fabled Joshua Tree desert in California.
“We went for a few little wonders in the desert, like on these big rock outcrops, and found some lyrics for a few of the other songs,” the group said of their trip to Lowe. “And it’s scary, man, it’s scary. I mean that’s what the song is about a little bit, just being content with like — we’ve had some experiences out in the desert, just sort of losing some of your friends and just being like, ‘You know what, I’m sweet.'”
According to the band, “Lost in My Mind” also gives a clearer glimpse into the deeper and darker sounds of Solace, which they recorded over the past year in Venice, Calif.?
“I think this is the start of people starting to hear a bit more of different shades to what the album is about to offer,” the band said. “We delve into different feelings of genres. We’re lucky we got to watch a lot of music while we were on the road at festivals, and we also listen to a bunch of different stuff. So we show there’s a bit more of those different shades to us.”?
“Lost in My Mind” is the third single off the upcoming LP, following the ethereal “No Place” and the haunting “Underwater,” which peaked at No. 31 and No. 42, respectively, on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.?
Solace is scheduled to drop this fall via Reprise Records and will be followed by a North American tour in October and European tour in November.?
