British music licensing platform Audio Network plc and independent music publisher/audio firm 2 entertain Limited were among the recipients of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, unveiled Monday.
Audio Network was feted with a Queen’s Award for Innovation, one of three categories. The Halstead, Essex-based firm was recognized for its innovative licensing model, which has seen the company digitize its 15,000-track library for use across multiple platforms.
London-based 2 entertain, which consists of the three divisions — 2 entertain Video, Demon Records and creative communications agency Banana Split Productions — was praised for its efforts in establishing an international sales platform for its DVD product.
“We have enjoyed tremendous growth over the last few years and are now a truly global brand,” comments 2 entertain CEO Richard Green, in a statement. “The Queen’s Award reflects the importance that 2 entertain puts on its international business and its commitment to bringing the best of British entertainment to a global audience.”
Established in 2002, Audio Network’s Web site allows media professionals to search for a track, download it and license directly from the company.
Composers, artists and orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Dame Evelyn Glennie and Sir John Dankworth have contributed works for the firm’s music library, which is available in the high-definition 5.1 surround sound format. Its catalog also features 50,000 rights-cleared sound effects, and counts Universal Pictures, BBC, Ogilvy and BT Vision among its clients.
A Queen’s Award is recognized as one of the most prestigious prizes for the British business community. A celebratory reception will be held at Buckingham Palace in July.
