Until now, the KCON 2015 lineup consisted of all groups. But now Roy Kim‘s been added to the mix.
The popular singer-songwriter was announced to join the Los Angeles date of America’s biggest K-pop festival for the three-day, two-concert affair this summer. He joins previously announced acts Super Junior, AOA, Block B and Shinhwa for the fest’s West Coast date. The news came during the weekly #KCONLiveChat livestream.
Just before attending Georgetown University, Roy auditioned for South Korean singing competition show Superstar K4 (a Korean equivalent to American Idol) and won. He found Kelly Clarkson-esque success with his debut single “Bom Bom Bom,” that became the seventh-biggest K-pop single in 2013. The cut was lifted off his first LP, 2013’s folky Love Love Love, which was followed up by his acoustic-leaning Home album in late 2014.
Despite being based in both Korea and America, the 21-year-old has yet to bow on a U.S. Billboard chart. To date, his stateside performances have been limited, but the singer did perform at this year’s Global Citizen Earth Day in Washington D.C. alongside No Doubt, Usher, Fall Out Boy, Mary J Blige and VIXX.
