The Rolling Stones have ended their longest-ever studio album drought with the release of Blue & Lonesome, the rock legends’ first LP in more than a decade.
Produced by Don Was and The Glimmer Twins (the longtime pseudonym used by Stones singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards for their production work), the Stones’ all-covers album of blues classics and deep cuts dropped at midnight through Polydor.
The 12-song, 42-minute album finds the band “tipping their hats to their early days as a blues band when they played the music of Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf – artists whose songs are featured on this album,” explains a statement accompanying the release.
The Stones’ first all-blues album was recorded in just three days last December at British Grove Studios in West London, and features a guest appearance from Eric Clapton on the track “Everybody Knows About My Good Thing” (original recorded in 1971 by Little Johnny Taylor and composed by Miles Grayson & Lermon Horton).
It’s the British rockers’ first studio set since 2005’s A Bigger Bang, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
