New York house producer/DJ Roger Sanchez celebrated Independence Day in the U.K. yesterday (July 4) with a surprise appearance at an independent record store in London’s Soho.
About 30 revelers crammed into the basement of Uptown Records for the unannounced event to hear him spin a 90-minute DJ set. The gig, which was arranged by Uptown’s manager Paul Farris, is Sanchez’s second at the influential music store in four years. “This is where it all starts — from the underground, in shops like this,” Sanchez told Billboard.com. “You should always keep your faith and love for the underground.”
“Another Chance”, the first single from his forthcoming album, was released Monday in the U.K. on London-based Defected Records, and looks set to enter the national charts at number one. “I’m kind of surprised,” Sanchez said. “I’ve always done stuff a lot more on the club and underground tip. What I’m very happy about is that people have been vibing with the track and feeling something out of it.”
“Contact,” Sanchez’s eagerly anticipated debut album, will get its U.K. release on July 30.
