Even though they can’t support new music downloads like other new-generation game consoles, Wii and PlayStation2 owners can still get updated songs for their versions of the game via a new “track pack” being issued July 15.
The “Rock Band Track Pack Vol. 1” is basically an expansion pack playable with an existing version of the game. It contains 20 songs for $30, including hits from such acts as Boston, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis and The Grateful Dead. All are master recordings of the original song, and all are also available as individual track downloads for competing platforms like the PlayStation3 and the Xbox 360.
More than 12 million songs have been purchased and downloaded for the “Rock Band” game since last November.
