While the sales numbers are not yet in, “Rock Band” championed over “Guitar Hero III” during Spike TV’s 5th annual “Video Game Awards” show, broadcast over the weekend.
Harmonix, the MTV-owned music game pioneer and developer of “Rock Band,” beat out more mainstream gaming competitors for the title of developer of the year. Harmonix created the original “Guitar Hero” franchise with publisher Red Octane before Activision acquired the latter company and Harmonix went to MTV to develop the competing title.
“Rock Band” also beat out “Guitar Hero II” and “Guitar Hero III” to win best rhythm game, and beat out all other game genres to win best soundtrack.
