Robin Thicke will perform at the opening weekend extravaganza for the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 5, in the second game of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.
As well as presenting a three-song pre-game concert at Dodger Stadium, the singer will throw out the first pitch before the 1.10 p.m. PST game begins, it was announced on Thursday.
A Los Angeles native, Thicke is a longtime fan and has prompted cheers from the crowds when he was been flashed on the jumbotron during past matchups. On the flip-side, “Blurred Lines” is a favorite among the players and has become a regular theme tune in the team’s clubhouse.
“Born and raised in Los Angeles, I have been a Dodger fan my whole life,” Thicke said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, adding that he is “very excited to help bring in what we all hope will be a championship season.”
“Robin and the Dodgers are a perfect combination,” explained Steve Berman, vice chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M, the label which is partnering with the Dodgers for Thicke’s first performance in a major league baseball stadium.
“A quintessentially L.A. musician meets a quintessentially L.A. team. We’re thrilled to have this opportunity, and Robin is going to light up Chavez Ravine. Live. Breathe. Blu-rred Lines!!”
Lon Rosen, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the Dodgers, went on to say: “Robin is a magnificent, iconic performer, who is perfect to help our club launch the start of another thrilling year of Dodger baseball.”
The pre-game concert will be open to fans who have a ticket to the game. The home opener will be the day before, on April 4, also at 1.10 p.m.
Thicke embarks on his own North American tour on February 21 in Atlanta, Ga., at the Fox Theatre.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are first heading down under to play in the MLB Opening Series in Sydney, Australia, on March 22 and 23. The game against the Arizona Diamondbacks will be held at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground, which will be fully renovated to a baseball configuration.
SportsNet LA, the cable channel devoted to the Dodgers franchise is set to debut Feb. 25. The new channel follows the template that Time Warner Cable created with the L.A. Lakers’ dedicated channel, Time Warner Cable SportsNet, which also carries L.A. Galaxy soccer games.
