Robin Thicke delivered a laid-back performance Sunday at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, debuting a brand new track called “Get Her Back.” The song is dedicated to his estranged wife, Paula Patton, from whom he separated in February after eight years of marriage.
“I should’ve kissed you longer/ I should’ve held you stronger,” Thicke sang in the hearlfelt ballad. He continued, “All I wanna do is make it right… I gotta get her, go get her back/ I gotta treat her right /I gotta cherish her for life”
Thicke and Patton have been involved since they were in their teens. After it was announced they were separating, Thicke has opened several concerts expressing how he wants to work things out.
Thicke earned four awards at this year’s BBMAs, including Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Radio Song and Top R&B Song — collectively for “Blurred Lines,” which spent 12 weeks atop the Hot 100. The track, which features Pharrell and T.I., has sold 7 million copies, making it the 8th biggest song download of all time. Thicke’s latest album, also called “Blurred Lines,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 731,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
