The World Copyright Summit, to be held June 7-8 in Brussels, has announced its schedule. The event will feature a slate of keynote speakers, including the WIPO director general Francis Gurry, two European Commission officials, CISAC president Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, and an interview with EMI Group CEO Roger Faxon.
The conference, which is organized by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), will offer a lineup of more than 100 speakers. It will also emphasize the need for constructive dialogue on the importance of copyright protection and the distribution of creative works in the digital era.
In addition to European commissioner for internal market and services Michel Barnier, and VP of the European commission and European commissioner for digital agenda Neelie Kroes, the keynote speakers are president of Croatia and music composer Ivo Josipovic, and French visual artist and CISAC VP Hervé Di Rosa.
Faxon’s keynote appearance will take the form of an interview by songwriter and ASCAP president/chairman of the board Paul Williams. Gurry will be interviewed by Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) CEO Eric Baptiste.
In addition to music industry executives, the convention will also feature ideas and debates with other intellectual property sectors like books, movies and films.
