Robbie Williams’ 2004 “Greatest Hits” (Chrysalis) release was certified five-times platinum in February, according to the latest IFPI Platinum Europe Award honors list.
The British pop star’s compilation was one of eight albums to gain certification during the month. Platinum status is awarded to albums for European shipments in excess of one million units.
Next up is Williams’ EMI labelmates Coldplay, who surpassed the four-million shipments milestone with their 2005 release “X&Y” (Parlophone). Fellow EMI signing Gorillaz claimed a third platinum award with “Demon Days” (Parlophone), also from 2005.
Five albums achieved platinum status for the first time in February. They were Green Day’s “International Superhits” (Reprise), Jack Johnson’s “In Between Dreams” (Brushfire/Universal Island), Raphael’s “Caravane” (Capitol), Sugababes’ “Taller In More Ways” (Island), and the Pussycat Dolls’ “PCD” (A&M/Interscope).
