The former Take That singer, 44, claims he’s been close to death “so many times.” “Fortunately and unfortunately, left to my own devices, I’m inclined to sabotage everything,” Robbie said. “I’ve got a disease that wants to kill me and it’s in my head, so I have to guard against that.”
Williams compared his struggle to that of his friend and fellow pop star George Michael, who died on Christmas Day in 2016. “It’s been a very similar roller coaster, yes. And I miss George Michael, I wish he was here.”
Williams has battled addiction since he was 19. After getting sober in his early 20s, he relapsed several times before going to rehab on his 33rd birthday in 2007, claiming he was “24 hours from death.”
Williams is currently on tour in Australia on The Heavy Entertainment Show tour.
