As RL Grime pushes the edges of his sound, he too must jump into the studio with the courage, and his latest single “Stay For It” — featuring Miguel — is an experiment in cinematic maximalism, nothing less.
It’s all about dynamics. “Stay For It” opens with a simple piano and vocal and builds straight up until it explodes. The trap is still there in the drop of the beat, but the massive synths are the star. This back-and-forth of steady peaks and valleys gives the song structure, and the arpeggioed melody that comes in halfway through takes this tune from simple to deadly.
