Regional Mexican superstar Lupillo Rivera and renowned Spanish television personality Candela Ferro will co-host the 2006 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
The awards, produced and broadcast by Telemundo, will take place April 27 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida at 7PM ET.
Rivera is recognized for a fruitful 10-year music career, which has earned him international awards, including gold and platinum albums. He is a finalist for the Billboard Latin Music Awards in the categories of regional Mexican album of the year, male solo artist for “El Rey de las Cantinas” (Univision/UG) and regional Mexican airplay song of the year, male solo artist for “Ya Me Habían Dicho.”
The 2006 Billboard Latin Music Awards will mark the fourth time that Ferro has co-hosted the show. Candela currently presents the top-rated Telemundo primetime program “Decisiones.” The Argentine has also served as host of various other Telemundo specials including “Red Carpet for 2002 Billboard Awards”; “Ritmo Latino Music Awards”; “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade”, “Golden Globes 2002,” and the “2003 Miss Universe Pageant,” the latter three making history as Spanish-Language television premieres.
As previously reported, Reggaetón star Daddy Yankee and Mexican pop phenomenon RBD — both part of the youth movement that dominated Billboard’s Latin charts last year — are the leading finalists for the 2006 awards. Daddy Yankee is a finalist in 10 categories, including hot Latin songs artist, top Latin albums artist and songwriter of the year. EMI Latin-signed pop group RBD, which burst into mainstream consciousness last year with “Rebelde,” is a contender in nine categories, including top Latin albums artist.
The gala will cap off the 17th annual Latin Music Conference, which starts April 24 at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.
