After Rihanna and Prince Harry celebrated the 50th anniversary of (RiRi’s native) Barbados’ independence on Nov. 30, the two decided to spread some awareness for another important date 24 hours later: World AIDS Day.
Coming together for the Barbados National HIV/AIDS Commission’s “Man Aware” event Thursday (Dec. 1), Rihanna and Harry both got tested for HIV to show how easy the process is — even though Harry made Rihanna think otherwise.
The Prince went first for his finger prick, wincing while his test was being administered. Rihanna couldn’t help looking a little nervous when it was her turn, but once the super-quick test was over, the “Work” singer called Harry out for getting her worked up.
“Oh that was not bad,” Rihanna says, in a video shared by Kensington Palace of her and Harry’s testing, as she looks at Prince Harry after getting her finger pricked. “You really made it seem like it hurt!”
While both of their tests came back negative, Harry later stressed in a Facebook Live that positive results aren’t necessarily a death sentence. He added that an early diagnosis can help those affected avoid transmission, urging everyone to get tested like he and Rihanna did.
“It’s better that everyone goes and gets tested,” he said in the webcast. “Why wouldn’t you? Whether you’re a man, woman, gay, straight, black, white, whatever, even ginger, why wouldn’t you come and have a test?”
