Rick Ross‘ new track was meant to be blasted from car stereos.
“I started with a box Chevy / then I got a blue Lexus,” the Maybach Music mogul raps on “Box Chevy,” a track that aims its automotive boasts squarely at his critics.
The hard-hitting lead single is the first from “Mastermind,” Ross’ follow-up to last year’s “God Forgives, I Don’t,” a quick turnaround given his previous effort’s July release. “God Forgives, I Don’t” bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2012, his fourth chart-topping set and his best debut week yet with 218,000 copies sold.
“Box Chevy” was produced by D. Rich. Ross released an album trailer earlier this month that teased a less aggressive sound, picturing the MC enjoying a romantic partner’s company over the Curtis Mayfield track “Give Me Your Love.”
