Techno is steppin’ out of the dark underground and into the enlightened halls of the fine art world, thanks to Richie Hawtin’s new project.
The purveyor of dark, brooding ambience paired with photographer Andreas Grusky and the Gagosian Gallery in New York City to provide original soundscape accompaniment to Grusky’s latest exhibition “Not Abstract II.”
As viewers soak up Grusky’s play on scale and repetition, Hawtin will enhance the overwhelming mood with minimal, creeping chords and echoing textures. You can hear some of the high-art noise via the Gagosian Gallery’s website. “Not Abstract II” is open Nov. 10 through Dec. 23, 2016.
Hawtin is no stranger to the fine art world. An avid fan and collector, Hawtin performed as alias Plastikman at the Guggenheim Museum New York in 2013.
