The RIAA has made three key promotions.
Steven Marks is now general counsel, Stanley Pierre-Louis is named senior VP of legal affairs, and Jonathan Lamy is VP of communications. All report to Mitch Bainwol, chairman/CEO of the Washington, D.C.-based trade group.
Marks, who was most recently senior VP of legal affairs, has been with the RIAA for more than seven years. He has worked on legislative initiatives that resulted in revisions to the Copyright Act, negotiations with digital music services for inaugural statutory license rates, mechanical licensing issues with music publishers and managing the spin-off of SoundExchange as an independent rights organization.
Pierre-Louis, who was VP of legal affairs, has been with the RIAA since 1999. He has played a key role in landmark copyright litigation, including the trade group’s cases against Napster, MP3.com and Aimster.
Lamy, formerly director of communications, has been with the RIAA since 2002. In his new role, he succeeds Amy Weiss, who is now chief spokesperson for the United Nations Foundation.
