The acquisitions in the mobile app space just keep coming. This time its DIY outfit ReverbNation picking up developer Sound Around, creator of Band App
The company announced the acquisition on its blog earlier today.
Sound Around’s Band App lets artists and bands create a custom iPhone app based on a series of templates, somewhat similar to other make-your-own-app services like Mobile Roadie. Initial setup is free, with service plans ranging from $14 to $74 a month depending on the support required and number of fans accessing it.
ReverbNation will add the service to its stable of other marketing, distribution and promotional services offered to the more than 900,000 artists, labels, managers and venues using the platform.
One of the bigger app developer acquisitions of late was Disney Mobile’s purchase of Tap Tap Revenge developer Tapulous. As the app space becomes more fragmented with multiple companies competing over the same market, expect to see more of the winners being snagged up by larger companies interested in adding a mobile development team to their roster through targeted acquisitions such as this.
