Paul McCartney underwent heart surgery in the latter part of 2007, according to U.K. reports.
The 65-year-old Beatles singer and bass player is understood to have had a coronary angioplasty, a procedure which involves the opening-up of arteries to allow greater blood-flow.
Although a spokesman declined to comment, McCartney recovered sufficiently to perform in a televised New Year’s Eve program with Kylie Minogue. “He’s absolutely fine,” a source close to the artist tells Billboard.biz.
As previously reported, the veteran artist will receive the coveted outstanding contribution to music honor at the Feb. 20 Brit Awards 2008, and will perform at the ceremony.
McCartney last picked up a Brit Award in 1983 for best male solo artist. But the former Wings frontman was back among the winners at the sister Classical Brit Awards earlier in 2007 when his solo album “Ecce Cor Meum” took out classical album of the year honors.
McCartney has already collected the Brits outstanding contribution to music award, as a member of the Beatles.
