One of the more noticeable omissions of Apple’s vastly popular iPhone is the lack of available ringtones for the device. According to reports, that may soon change.
Citing unnamed sources close to the situation, The New York Post says Apple is in the process of developing it’s a ringtone service that may be unveiled at the company’s Sept. 5 media event, where a new line of iPods are also expected.
The Post says the service would allow users to buy default or custom ringtones through the iTunes service, either at the time of purchase or convert previously purchased tracks, for an as-yet undisclosed fee.
According to the report, the ringtones will only work with the iPhone, and Universal Music Group will not be participating.
