A “Bad Boy” helped Red Velvet earn their best U.S. sales week for a song to date.
The R&B-inspired K-pop single debuts at No. 2 on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart, selling 4,000 downloads (in the week of Jan. 26 – Feb. 1), according to Nielsen Music. Previously, the quirky-cute girl group’s best was a 3,000-download sales week for “Peek-A-Boo” in the week ending Nov. 23 last year. The group has sent three other songs to the No. 2 slot on World Digital Song Sales with “Peek-A-Boo” and 2016 single “Russian Roulette.”
Produced by The Stereotypes — who won the Grammy for song of year with Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” less than 24 hours before the single was released — the ladies delivered catchy, sassy hooks over trendy R&B and hip-hop beats for what’s arguably their most accessible song yet. The track was accompanied by a glossy visual, with the RV gals serving fashion-forward, fishnet-infused looks in a wintry atmosphere.
“Bad Boy” is the lead single from Red Velvet’s new EP The Perfect Red Velvet: Series 2 “Bad Boy,” which debuts at No. 3 on Billboard‘s World Albums chart and becomes their eighth entry to hit the Top 10. Alongside BTS, GOT7 and B.A.P, Red Velvet is tied among all K-pop acts for having the most No. 1s on the World Albums tally.
Red Velvet also hit a new best on the Social 50 chart, hitting No. 9 on the chart to mark their first time in the Top 10. Among all K-pop acts this week, they’re only behind BTS and EXO who spend a second week locked at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Red Velvet now joins BTS, EXO, GOT7, Seventeen, Wanna One, PSY, SHINee and Jonghyun as the only K-pop acts to hit the Top 10 of the Social 50.
